THE NEW YORK SENATE

Bringing voters together across party lines as the first Creative Director in United States government.

The Work

The first week, there was a coup – causing a political frenzy that would last for nearly a year. Instead of succumbing to partisan politics, Narrative set about transforming how government can empower and communicate with voters. The result? Sitting President Barack Obama asking his team how the nation’s most dysfunctional state government could lead the way in technology and constituent engagement.

As the first person to occupy the title of Creative Director within United States government, Narrative principal Christopher Sealey drove all digital, experiential, television and photography programs for all 62 New York Senators in both the Republican and Democratic parties.

Narrative created a new visual design system for New York State and partnered with the Senate Information Technology department to develop a host of open government platforms, including the first-ever “Google”-styled legislative search engine in US government history. Marked improvement to direct mail systems and a commitment to streaming all Senate meetings statewide put government in the hands of New Yorkers in a way they had not previously experienced.

Christopher was profiled in numerous publications for his groundbreaking work, including a feature article in New York Magazine.
